We work directly with communities and we seek with our partners to influence the powerful to ensure that poor people can improve their lives and livelihoods and have a say in decisions that affect them.

Oxfam has worked for over 50 years in Indonesia and now focuses its efforts on empowering women, building the resilience of those living in poverty to shocks and disasters (including responding to emergencies), and improving the effectiveness and accountability of governance for those living in poverty and especially women.

Country Management Team
There are two challenging opportunities for ambitious and experienced managers in our country management team, based in Jakarta. This seven person team works to ensure the whole country programme delivers on Oxfam’s poverty and suffering reduction mandate in a way which empowers women.

1. Humanitarian Programme Manager
Based in Jakarta with travel

As the leader of all Oxfam’s work in Indonesia on the whole disaster management cycle with a strong emphasis on advocacy approaches, disaster risk reduction and women’s empowerment, you will hold one of our most challenging programme leadership posts. You’ll be comfortable with Oxfam’s sectoral areas of focus for in emergencies – water and sanitation, emergency food security and livelihoods. You will be responsible for all emergency preparedness and response, from contingency planning, to supporting and capacity building our large range of partners, to strategic networking and advocacy with government and overseeing a multi-disciplinary team and a substantial budget plus ensuring top quality knowledge and information management, and programme cycle management. Logistics and security will also fall under your remit, and you’ll be keen to look for creative and dynamic ways to raise the quality and impact sustainability of aid delivered to Indonesia’s vulnerable when disaster strikes.

To convince us you are the one to take on this high profile role, you will need at least 5 years experience with international agencies in planning, implementing and managing humanitarian responses on a significant scale (e.g. such as Jogjakarta earthquake, Padang earthquake), including experience of building local capacities to assess, design and manage programmes and a relevant university degree. Your analytical and communication skills will be highly developed, and you will be a confident leader and a competent manager with strong organisational awareness capacity and ability to navigate within complex organisational environments. Your commitment to women’s empowerment will be deep and strong.

2. Human Resources Manager
Based in Jakarta with travel

As leader of the HR team, you will provide essential HR support to the country programme (c. 100 staff) in the areas of talent management, recruitment, performance management and development, HR policy implementation, government liaison and legal framework compliance, providing a confidential listening service to all staff, health and safety and promoting diversity and the empowerment of women.

To be the one we’re looking for, you’ll need a full professional qualification in Human Resources Management plus substantial HR experience at management level (at least 3 years). Your knowledge of Indonesian labor law, and experience of working with relevant government departments especially the Labour office will be extensive. Your professional conduct and discretion will be exemplary and you will have a sincere and proven commitment to gender, diversity and equal opportunity issues. You’ll demonstrate a highly flexible style alongside the ability to produce creative and pragmatic solutions to complex HR problems.

Policy Advocacy & Communications Team
This small but vital team delivers on a critical and cutting edge part of Oxfam’s strategy in Indonesia facilitating linkages between work on the ground and the issues we want to work on at national and global levels through smart research, strategic networking and influencing and creative dissemination of knowledge products – all of this with and through networks of partners. Two substantive officer positions are vacant for individuals with proven track records in their fields, true zeal for making change happen and a sincere belief in women’s empowerment.

3. Media Advocacy Officer
Based in Jakarta with travel

In this newly redesigned role, you’ll lead on the country media strategy and ensuring the local-national-global linkages on identified poverty-related issues (like rural food security, adapting to climate change, agricultural investment, mainstreaming disaster risk reduction, prioritizing women’s empowerment) in our advocacy work, always mindful of Oxfam’s profile and brand. You’ll be using and developing your networks of media organisations and partners to get Oxfam’s advocacy messages out to our target audiences, and you’ll be involved in making our communications more dynamic and proactive. You ‘It work directly to build partner’s capacity, and will provide support for humanitarian responses as required.

To show why this job should be yours you’ll need to demonstrate you have knowledge, skills and experience in advocacy/influencing and campaigning on issues for pro-poor social change in Indonesia coming from at least 3 years experiences as a working journalist or public relations consultant/media/advocacy/communications officer and education to a degree level in a relevant discipline. You can demonstrate good news sense and that you have an extensive media network you can draw on as well as knowledge and appetite for the full range of media and communication tools. You’ll be a self starter and your commitment to women’s empowerment will be much more than skin deep!

4. Campaigns Officer
Based in Jakarta with travel

As Campaigns Officer you will lead on Oxfam’s national campaigning with partners, and provide dynamic support to regional and global Oxfam campaigns. You’ll help design and implement campaigns strategies in our areas of strategic focus, and constantly expand and develop partnership networks to deliver effective campaigns and advocacy. You’ll be involved in making our communications more dynamic and proactive. You’ll work directly to build partner’s capacity, and will provide support for humanitarian responses as required.

To be the successful candidate, show us that you have relevant degree level education and NGO campaigns experience, particularly in terms of developing and executing a campaigns strategy. You’ll also bring a good understanding of global and national development issues, and you’ll have good civil society networks and experience in how to build capacity. You must be media-savvy and comfortable with the full range of campaign, media and communications tools that are now out there. If you don’t care about women’s empowerment, and if you are not hungry to be a change maker, then this job is not for you!

Building Resilience in Eastern Indonesia Team
Oxfam believes people in Indonesia should fend for themselves. That’s why, over the last three years, we’ve been scaling up our ‘Building Resilience’ programme. Working closely with the country’s government, as well as civil society and community action groups, we’re coordinating our efforts to ensure the people of Indonesia are better prepared to cope with whatever nature throws at them. It’s a huge challenge – this is a part of the world that’s particularly prone to natural disasters. But we’ve already made tremendous headway. And with your help, we’ll bring greater peace of mind and security to those who live in the region.

5. Media & Communications Officer
Based in Jakarta with travel

Your focus will be on delivering a strategic media and communications plan for the Building Resilience Programme. Degree qualified, you’re a superb communicator and networker with proven experience in journalism, media, communications and/or PR and a proven commitment to equality and gender issues. Experience or knowledge of disaster risk reduction programmes would be an advantage.
