The U.S. Consulate in Medan is seeking an individual for the position of Public Affairs / Economic Assistant in the Public Affairs Section.


BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:

Under the supervision of the Deputy Principal Officer and the guidance from the Political / Economic Specialist and Public Diplomacy Assistant, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the U.S. education and exchange programs as well as economic and commercial programs, analysis, and reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

1. Minimum Bachelor’s degree in such fields as Social Sciences, Business, or Law required.
2. One (1) year of professional experience in academia, government, NGOs or with companies in fields such as Public Relations, Advertising, Media, or Business is required.
3. Level IV (Fluent) speaking/reading/writing in English and Bahasa Indonesia is required.
4. Requires in depth knowledge of the U.S. educational system and the U.S. trade and commercial policy. Must have knowledge of names, relationships, acronyms and purpose of government, NGO, educational institutions in the U.S. and Indonesia. Thorough familiarity with office procedures and correspondence formats.
5. Must demonstrate the proficiency in using the internet, database programs and Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Must have the ability to gather information and draft routine correspondence without instruction. Ability to analyze and organize data and make suggestions for improvements.
6. Must demonstrate customer service and excellent interpersonal skills, especially when dealing with people with a wide variety of professional, educational and social backgrounds. Proven teamwork skills. Ability to take initiative and work independently. Ability to prioritize work, organize projects and manage time.
